Let's Begin with a Conversation

Taking the first step can sometimes feel like the hardest one.

You may have been thinking about coaching for some time, or perhaps this is the first time you have considered it. Wherever you are, you do not need to have everything worked out before reaching out.

We simply begin with a conversation.

My hope is that from our very first conversation, you will feel heard and supported. Whether or not we eventually work together, I hope you will leave with greater clarity than when you arrived.

Our first Conversation

Our first conversation is not an interview or an assessment.

It is simply an opportunity for us to get to know one another.

We will talk about what brought you here, what you are hoping for and whether coaching feels like the right fit for where you are today. Just as importantly, it is an opportunity for you to decide whether I am the right coach for you.

You are welcome to ask me anything about coaching, how I work or what you are hoping to achieve.

There is no obligation and no expectation. Sometimes that first conversation is enough to provide clarity. If we both feel coaching would be valuable, we will decide together what the next step might look like.

Coaching is a journey

Every coaching conversation is different because every person brings a different story.

Some conversations explore a challenge you are facing today. Others help you step back and look at the bigger picture. Sometimes you'll leave with a new perspective. Other times you will leave with something to reflect on or a small action to try before we meet again.

There is no rigid process because your coaching journey should reflect you - not the other way around.

As our conversations continue, we will pause from time to time to reflect on what you are discovering, what is changing and where you would like to focus next.

As a general guide, I usually recommend beginning with six one-hour coaching conversations.

This provides enough time for trust to develop, for insights to emerge and, more importantly, for new thinking and meaningful change to take shape between our sessions.

My hope is not simply to help you navigate today's challenge, but to leave you feeling heard and supported, with greater clarity, more confidence and better equipped for whatever comes next.

Coaching, in my experience...

People sometimes ask me what coaching actually is.

For me, coaching is not about having all the answers or telling people what they should do.

It is about creating the time, space and support for people to think more clearly, explore different perspectives and discover their own way forward.

I believe people already have many of the strengths and resources they need. Sometimes what makes the biggest difference is having someone who will listen, ask thoughtful questions and walk alongside them as clarity begins to emerge.

Coaching is, above all, a conversation built on trust, curiosity and respect.

What coaching is... what it isn't?

People often ask how coaching is different from mentoring, consulting or counselling. While there are similarities, each serves a different purpose.

Coaching is...

  • A confidential space where you can pause, think and reflect.

  • A partnership built on trust, curiosity and meaningful conversation.

  • An opportunity to explore different perspectives and discover your own way forward.

  • Focused on helping you move forward with greater clarity, confidence and intention.

Coaching is not...

  • About someone telling you what decisions to make.

  • About giving advice or providing ready-made solutions.

  • About judging, fixing or changing who you are.

  • A substitute for counselling or therapy when specialist mental health support is needed.

I do not believe coaching is about someone else having the answers. I believe it is about creating the kind of conversation where your own answers have the opportunity to emerge.

You might still be wondering...

Do I need to know what I want to work on?

Not at all.

Some people come with a very clear goal, while others simply know something doesn't feel quite right.

Coaching creates the time and space to discover what's really important, so you don't need to have everything figured out before we begin.

Will you tell me what I should do?

Not in the way you might expect.

I may share an observation or offer a different perspective from time to time, but coaching isn't about someone else deciding what's best for you.

I believe the most meaningful and lasting answers are often the ones we discover for ourselves.

How many coaching sessions will I need?

Every person and every journey is different.

Some people come with a specific goal that can be explored over a few conversations. Others choose a longer coaching journey as they continue growing in different areas of their life or leadership.

We'll review our progress together as we go and decide what feels right for you.

Are our conversations confidential?

Absolutely.

Trust sits at the heart of every coaching relationship.

Everything we discuss remains confidential unless we agree otherwise or there is a legal or ethical obligation to disclose something. If coaching is sponsored by an organisation, we will also agree upfront on clear confidentiality boundaries so everyone understands what will—and would not - be shared.

My hope is that you will always feel able to speak openly, knowing you will be listened to with respect, care and without judgement.

Shall we begin with a conversation?

If something you have read has resonated with you, perhaps the next step is simply a conversation.

There is no expectation that you need to have everything worked out before reaching out.

We will get to know one another, talk about what is on your mind and explore whether coaching feels like the right fit for where you are today.

If it does, I would be honoured to walk alongside you.
